Ceremony settings: chapels, villas and the sea

Paros has dozens of small whitewashed chapels, and an Orthodox priest can hold a service in a chapel or church by arrangement. Couples ask us about Panagia Ekatontapiliani in Parikia, one of the oldest churches in Greece, and the chapel of Agios Ioannis at Kolymbithres. For a civil or symbolic ceremony, a villa terrace above the sea gives you privacy and full control of timing. In Antiparos, the waterfront villas and the old Kastro quarter suit smaller groups.

Paperwork: what Greece asks of foreign couples

Non-resident foreign couples can marry legally in Greece. A civil wedding is arranged through the municipality: Paros and Antiparos each have their own. A religious wedding is arranged with the priest and then registered at the civil registry. Documents usually need an apostille and an official Greek translation, so start about three months ahead. Many couples marry legally at home and hold a symbolic ceremony here. Always confirm the current list with the municipality.

Questions

Paros weddings: questions couples ask

Can foreigners get legally married in Paros?

Yes, non-resident foreign couples can marry legally in Greece in a civil or a religious ceremony. A civil wedding is arranged with the municipality, here the Municipality of Paros or the Municipality of Antiparos. Requirements change, so confirm the current list with the municipality before you book.

What documents do you need for a civil wedding in Greece?

You usually need valid passports, birth certificates and a certificate of no impediment from your home country, plus a divorce or death certificate if either of you was married before. Foreign documents normally need an apostille on the original and an official Greek translation. Many municipalities also ask for witnesses with ID.

How far ahead should we start the wedding paperwork?

Start at least three months before the date. Gathering documents, apostilles and certified translations often takes 8 to 12 weeks, and some municipalities accept a certificate of no impediment only if it is recent. After the ceremony, the marriage must be registered at the Greek civil registry, usually within 40 days.

Can we have a Greek Orthodox wedding in Paros?

Yes, if at least one of you is Greek Orthodox and the other is a baptised Christian. The official sponsor, the koumbaros or koumbara, must also be Orthodox. The priest tells you which church documents he needs. For a Catholic ceremony, the contact is the Catholic church of Saint Anthony in Parikia.

Is same-sex marriage legal in Greece?

Yes, civil marriage for same-sex couples has been legal in Greece since February 2024. The documents and process are the same as for any civil wedding. Religious ceremonies are not available to same-sex couples, but a symbolic ceremony at a villa or on a boat is always possible.

When is the best time for a wedding in Paros?

Late spring and early autumn: April to June and September to October. The weather is warm, the island is calmer and suppliers have more free dates. July and August are the busiest months, and the north wind, the meltemi, can be strong, so plan a sheltered ceremony spot.

How much does a wedding in Paros cost with you?

Wedding planning in Paros is priced on request, built from our starting prices. The total depends on guest numbers and setting. Starting prices: private chef from €500, flowers and styling from €400, photographer from €150, DJ from €1,000 and transfers from €80. Send your date and guest count on WhatsApp and we reply with a plan.
