Calm bay on Paros with whitewashed houses, the kind of shallow water families look for

Paros with kids

Paros is one of the easiest Cyclades islands for families. The north has calm, shallow bays near Naoussa, Antiparos is 7 minutes away by car ferry, and most drives take under half an hour. We are a local team in Naoussa: we plan the beaches, the boat day and the transfers around nap times and wind.

Shallow beaches for small children

Kolymbithres sits inside Naoussa bay, with very shallow, warm water between smooth granite rocks, and small boats run there from Naoussa harbour. Monastiri, inside Paros Park, is a sheltered sandy cove of about 100 metres. Near Parikia, Krios has lake-like water and a water taxi across the bay. On the east coast, Piso Livadi is extremely shallow and Golden Beach has shallow edges plus windsurf schools for older children.

Antiparos Cave, a real adventure

The cave sits about 8 km from Antiparos town and drops roughly 85 metres down 411 steps, past stalactites and stalagmites. In 2026 it opens daily from 10:00 to 16:00, last entry 15:30, until the end of October. Children aged 6 to 12 pay a reduced ticket and under-6s go free. Wear trainers, bring water, as there is no shop nearby, and keep energy for the climb back up.

  • Pounta to Antiparos: 7 minutes by car ferry
  • 411 steps, best for children who walk well

Nature days and open-air cinema

Paros Park covers about 80 hectares on the Agios Ioannis Detis peninsula near Naoussa. Three marked paths, more than 7 km in total and easy to moderate, lead to coves and the Korakas lighthouse. From June to October, Cine Enastron screens films outdoors inside the park. South of Parikia, the Valley of the Butterflies at Petaloudes fills with thousands of tiger moths in summer, with shaded, well-marked paths that small legs can manage.

  • Paros Park: free parking, open all year
  • Cine Enastron: June to October
  • Petaloudes: about 5 km south of Parikia

A private boat lets you stop when the children want to swim and head home when they are tired. The Axopar 37 takes up to 10 guests, from €1,700 for 4 hours with skipper, fuel, drinks and snacks. The favourite family stop is the Blue Lagoon at Panteronisia, with a pale, shallow sandy seabed and no roads. The skipper chooses the sheltered side of Antiparos on windy days. See our boat trips.

Questions

Paros with kids: questions parents ask

Is Paros good for families with young children?

Yes, Paros is one of the most family-friendly Cyclades islands. It has several very shallow beaches, short drives, an airport 25 minutes from Naoussa and a 7-minute car ferry to Antiparos. Naoussa and Parikia are both easy to walk with a pushchair along the waterfront.

Which Paros beaches are best for toddlers?

Kolymbithres, Monastiri, Krios and Piso Livadi are the best Paros beaches for toddlers. All four have very shallow, calm water. Kolymbithres and Monastiri are near Naoussa, Krios is across the bay from Parikia, and Piso Livadi is on the east coast. Go in the morning, before the afternoon wind.

Is the Antiparos Cave suitable for children?

Yes, for children who walk confidently, since the visit means 411 steps down and back up. The cave is about 85 metres deep and 8 km from Antiparos town. Children aged 6 to 12 pay a reduced ticket and under-6s enter free. Bring water and trainers.

What can kids do in Paros apart from the beach?

Paros Park, the Valley of the Butterflies and a private boat day are the top picks. Paros Park has easy marked trails to the Korakas lighthouse and the Cine Enastron open-air cinema from June to October. The butterfly valley at Petaloudes is about 5 km south of Parikia.

Can we take children on a private boat in Paros?

Yes, a private boat is the easiest way to see Antiparos with children. Our Axopar 37 takes up to 10 guests from €1,700 for a half day, with skipper, fuel, drinks and snacks included. The skipper picks calm coves, such as the Blue Lagoon at Panteronisia, based on the wind.

Where should families stay in Paros?

Naoussa suits most families, and Santa Maria and Agios Andreas, 10 to 15 minutes away, are quieter beach bases. Naoussa is close to Kolymbithres, Monastiri and Paros Park, and the harbour is flat and walkable. For a quieter stay, the Antiparos waterfront works well. We have 37 villas across both islands and match them to your children's ages.

When is the best time to visit Paros with kids?

June and September are the best months for Paros with kids. The sea is warm and days are long, with fewer crowds than in July and August, the busiest months. In June the sun sets after 20:30, so beach evenings run late. Book villas and boats early for summer.

How do we get to Antiparos with children?

The easiest way is the car ferry from Pounta, which takes about 7 minutes. You can drive straight on with your rental car or transfer vehicle. We can also arrange a private boat from Paros on request, which lets you combine Antiparos with a swim at the Blue Lagoon.
